before the last semester starts

it's the last week of out semester break soon
one more week and school starts again
and i already have a presentation in the 1st week -_-

having the break is good
get to slack a bit
did a few things during the break
although i feel the holiday is pretty wasted too

hmm....we had a 'crazy-hair' dessert party during the 1st week of the break
that was good...i wonder if they are gonna have another one before school starts
we actually had our flat all decorated
looks quite good to me

watched a lot of movies online
and a few in the cinema
got the Hoyts rewards card for $10
and it comes with a free movie ticket
so it's a good deal considering a normal student ticket is already $13
and i get to earn points to exchange for cinema tickets or treats

oh and i also tweaked my room layout a bit
shifted the tables around
now the room looks more spacious
i like it
feels more comfortable

i also tried to clear out the room a bit
threw out quite a bit
lots of paper, some old make-up, 'not-really-working' pens,
cleared out some clothes for donating
it wasnt a lot of clothes but my wardrobe now has a bit more space
thinking of how i'm gonna get my stuff back to sg when i'm done here
i guess i'll have quite a bit of things to sell?
probably lots of stuff to throw away again before i leave
but i'm hoping this clearing out here and there would help my big pack-up before i leave

hmm....i hate that nagging feeling of semester starting in about a month
i hope i get a good studio desk
although i think my chances are not that high
cos i'm not an aggressive table snatcher hahah!
maybe i should practise some of that singaporean kiasu spirit?

anyways, i've just been doing some self study? sort of.
i got 3 landscape architecture books from Amazon... a desprate attempt to make my life easier when school starts
so i'm currently reading a SketchUp book for site design....so far i've learnt a bit...although this book seems to have lots of typo errors?!
i also got a graphics book that was recommemded for students when i was in year 1...hahaha...took me 2 years to decide to get that book lol!
and another book called Landscape Architecture graphic standards
hopefully that comes in handy for my work...i'm quite sure it will

besides that, back to the gym too
i've gained too much weight in Canada hahahah!
so it's time to lose it!

oh, i think i got a few good offers too recently....hahahha
here goes aunty jac again....
i got a time planner/organiser for 25% off (hoping it helps me manage my time better)
i also got a desk calendar...i kinda waited until it went on 75% sale hahah!
last year i got a Dilbert one, this year it's a Get Fuzzy one
at about NZ$8, i think it's quite a bargain =P

at first, i hung these shiny mirror balls randomly around the ceiling around my room
but it somehow didnt feel right...wasn't what i thought it would look like
perhaps it felt messy...or maybe i just dun really like that something's hanging around in the middle of the room?
i think i have OCD man! hahah!
so, it'll have to stay at the side of the room

oh, also collected my new specs from specsavers
finally i have new specs! yay!
i'm wearing one of the new specs now
and it's giving me a headache!

but still cost me NZ$599!
cos the eye exam and multicoat cost an extra $210!
they sure know how to make $$

i kinda like the new frames
although i think i may need to get it adjusted a bit
it's so troublesome with low/no nose bridge
makes finding specs so difficult
oh i like their cases! hahaha....so fun, there's this button to press which slowly opens the lid of the case
i hope i don't play with it too much and spoil the case!
oh and i like the cleaning cloth too....it's round and black!

cooked some beef sauce last friday....erm, in Canada it would be called chili
but yeah, it's just the sauce over nacho chips
hahha, oh yea we had that for dinner =)
the sauce turned out pretty well, i also added a bit of real chili to spice it up
yummers!
baked some cookies too! i love those cookies!

back to lincoln

wow i can't believe i'm back in lincoln

no more exchange!
aww so sad....i'm glad i went for that exchange tho....got to visit many places
before coming back to lincoln i was in new york city for about a week, before taking a long bus ride back to toronto for my flight on the 22nd of dec
so that means i've been travelling since the night of the 21st
and before reaching lincoln i haven't had a proper sleep
wow i've been travelling for hmm...more than 2 days?
and because of the time difference, it's christmas day here in christchurch already!

i think i'll have the flat all to myself for a few days, that's if they put some people in in january for the january summer school
but it's funny coming back to an empty flat, but it still smells the same haha!
things still look pretty much the same...

i don't think i'll be able to get any internship job at all this summer
which means i'll have to desprately find one after semester 2 next year...
or i will not be able to graduate....argh!

i've been running the washing maching the whole day today...well, at least since i got up at around 2pm hahah!
and it's nice that it's summer here....feels good after all that snow in montreal, guelph and new york!

i'm missing my time in canada already
coming back to lincoln means final year is starting soon
and i dunno if i can cope
i gotta

looking forward to boxing day sale tomorrow
got a few things i need to get

my stuff's all over the living room now
so much to unpack and clean
and i still have pictures to upload!

too many things to do
too many things

i think i've spent too much time in the 1st half of the semester slacking
and i'm paying for it now -_-

wow, i can't believe there's less than 2 weeks of classes left
and since i don't have final exams scheduled in the official exam period...
i'm having my finals and all those other assignments due in the next 2 weeks

did i mention i HATE site engineering
and the worse part is that site engineering is vital for landscape architecture
argh....i'm still confused with most of the calculations
i think i get the basics...or do i?
i hate it when i don't understand a subject
espically when that results in me unable to do my assignments properly
feels like secondary school math again...
also, the guy teaching it....err...isnt really a good teacher...in fact he's a terrible teacher

time to freak out
hmm....well, i think i have been freaking out for the past few weeks....
in fact since halloween...

i'm even avoiding facebook now
so far it's been about 5-6 days since i touched facebook

i'm looking forward to my travels after semester
but i can't feel excited about it cos of all the deadlines coming up

i can only imagine my life worse next year

i'm in canada now
at last
i've wanted to come here since... so many years ago....

hehheh....
so far it's been pretty busy
with orientation activities and sorting out my stuff

some interesting things i noticed

there are a lot of squirrels on the campus.....black ones and brown ones....
they actually sell their milk in plastic-bags (although they also do have carton types)
this campus (i heard from their own students) have one of the best food in the whole of canada.....well....most of the stuff is good i think....although i've tried some average tasting food
it's actually quite diverse here
hmm....what else.....
i think the RAs here actually do their job
i thought NZ stuff is expensive.....it's even more ex here
they like to order pizzas

err....too tired to think anymore.....
i'm gonna go sleep.......

okay

have been chomping down loads of food since friday

and doing a bit of shopping

went to the mexican cafe on friday night

had some dish i cannot remember the name of

anyway, it's like a deep-fried burrito

i kinda liked it

we had to wait an hour to get a table

and another hour for the food

but before that i had mac's chocolate sundae

so i wasn't that hungry

but there must be something i ate that day...

cos i had a stomach ache right after dinner

maybe it's the mac and mex food combination?

bought a few tops from dress smart

i've been travelling around hornby, riccarton and the city these few days

i don't think i've been on the bus so many times since i got here!

3 glassons tops for NZ$35 and a cotton on cardigan for NZ$21

not too bad right?

hahaha anyway they're all on offer

got other stuff for travelling too

like toothpaste, adaptors and other mini stuff i can bring up the plane

i tried counting the number of hours i'll be travelling from christchurch to toronto....

it's almost a day!!!

oh it's gonna be a long long journey!

this eye mask would certainly come in handy for the journey!

unfortunately we missed it cos they missed the bus from lincoln

but they went down to riccarton anyway on the next bus (the bus comes every hour on weekdays)

and so i waited in mac till they arrived

hahaha! i seem to have spent lots of time today sitting alone in cafes that yesterday!

oh did i mention that my lecturer finally replied my email

so now i have an appointment to meet him at his office on wed, 11am

i hope i get things sorted *fingers crossed*

i'm quite satisfied that i've not wasted today away

i made a quick 'schedule' before i slept yesterday
well, usually i just jot down a 'to do' list
but yesterday night i went all the way to add in times too
i'm quite glad that i've mostly kept to the 'time table' hahah!
a bit off here and there....
but i've managed to do everything i've noted down
i kept reminding myself that i don't want to screw up the timetable and end up delaying everything

haha....but i seem to have eaten a lot too!
i reward myself with food way too often!
lol!

maybe i should do the same tonight
make a list and hope i keep to it tomrrow
i do have a few things to get

anyways
i just made an international money transfer to pay for my accommodation in guelph
oh the sudden drop in bank balance

courtesy to some you-tubing
i learnt an amazing way to dry your nail polish fast!

the trick?
a bowl of ice cold water!

now after i paint my nails
i air dry it for a min or so
before dipping my fingers into a bowl of icy cold water
for about a min
i found out the colder the better
if it's not totally dry yet...i just continue dipping
the icy water freezes the coat of polish
after making sure the polish is dry
i can then continue putting on the next coat
and the process repeats till i'm done with everything

go try it
it's quite interesting
hahahha!

international night 2009

lincoln university's international night
hmm....what can i say....
it's one of the more 'interesting' events to attend
well, basically cos there's loads to eat
all the different international cuisine
such as...
malaysian, german, chinese, thai, cambodian, vietnamese, saudi, danish.....
the food's quite alright
mostly finger food...nibbles....there were lots of cakes and cookies too....
i kinda like the german potato salad, danish berry/milk pudding and their meatballs, deep fried indian banana dish, walnut cookie, chocolate cake, crepe with chocolate.....(oh yeah ...i ate a LOT....although i diddn't get to try everything)
it was soooo crowded!
i don't think i've seen a more crowded event in lincoln
maybe they should consider having it at a larger venue
i diddn't like the fact that they threw away the leftovers (well, they feed it to the piggies)
they should have kept it for the intermission during the performances

oh as for the performances
erm....good effort by the performers
but i thought my secondary school could have done a better job
the programme was not really good
and the hall really needs a revamp
it's just too old and eh ugly?

okay, i would have posted more pics....but the internet keeps disconnecting and it's taking a bloody long time just to upload a pic....so i guess those will have to do....

oh yes
i finally made those prata sausages things
they turned out quite nicely
they look like some sort of puff pastry (not as light and flakey though)
and they looked like little pillows
well, since i diddn't want to add in more calories
i just ate them plain...without any dip or sauce
i found the tegal chicken sausages a bit salty though....
but it would taste really good with chili sauce or japanese mayo haha!

it has been raining/drizzling since i woke up
and that was some time around 12+ in the afternoon
my alarm was set to 9am & 9.30am
i realise these days i just keep snoozing my alarm
which means i only get out of bed 1 to 2 hrs after my alarm goes off
argh!
what a waste of time
occassionally that's fine
but to do it so often is not good
sometimes i feel i've wasted half the day already
and it feels so cold now
dun feel like stepping out of the flat

still got emails to send
gotta check out any work attachment postings (although i wonder if i'm even gonna apply...or if i could....since so many of them requires 'own transport to sites')
would it be better for me to complete my work attachment back in singapore?
but too rush leh.....argh...i dunno.....
if only i diddn't need to worry so much about transport/getting to places so much over here!
also gotta do a transfer for my accommodation fees in guelph
what else....
gotta pack too (gd thing my baggage allowance is a max of 46kg! woohoo!)
and i haven't got much time left!
i'll be gone in less than 3 weeks
and i also need to colour/trim my hair before setting off

baked some really sweet cookies yesterday
by the time i finished the baking it was quite dark already
so i only took pictures of it today

anyway i baked 2 different types of cookies
the first was a batch of chocolate chip and oat cookies
err....somehow the mixture diddn't turn out quite right
cos it was really really sticky.....that i had to add in more flour while mixing
maybe cos i doubled the amount of oat? or issit cos i added more egg?
this time i used raw sugar instead of splenda
well, i guess they are still edible
but i still prefer the oat+raisins+assorted nuts cookie
that's still my all time favourite

chocolate chip and oat cookies

the 2nd batch of cookies were green almond and pandan cookies
they have a different texture as compared to the normal cookies
because they have a much finer texture (due to the icing sugar)
and they are a bit like those that 'melt' in the mouth cookies
the original recepie called for salted peas
but since i dun have any of those, i used crushed almonds instead
the mixture was fun to play with though
haha very nice to touch cos it's so 'soft'
but these cookies are really really sweet
i think they are originally supposed to be this sweet

i don't really know how to put this
but i just find this very very weird

i realised that most people that i know that ask to come to my flat
or come looking for me in my flat
like those people that are in the same course or class
have something that they want

and that is always

my past projects
or
my lecture notes
or
my textbooks
or
some sort of help with their assignments

i dunno if i should feel flattered

or sad

don't get me wrong
help, i am always willing to give
but i wonder sometimes if i'm being toooo helpful?
to a certain extent that... sometimes i feel used?
i know it sounds bad
i sometimes wonder if that's the reason they are friends with me in the 1st place
come to think of it....it's quite sad....

although i know it's pretty much like that in the working world

and the funny thing is
i'm not a genius
and i'm not one of those popular peeps
i don't get the best grades in class
i'm know i'm not the most creative either
i don't get terrible grades though
and i will not deny that
sometimes i do quite well for my projects

i try my best
and i ask my lecturers and friends for help if i need to

and i never, never boast about my grades
people know my grades only because they ask me about it

i dunno it's all very confusing
no one ever asked to see my projects or ask about my grades when i was in singapore
i was one of those students who lecturers will never remember
i did not shine...nor did i get into trouble
i guess cos there were always so many others that are way better than me

i tell myself
that
i'll do this for karma
hahahhaha!
maybe something good will happen for me in the future?

i needed to use up the yogurt i had in the fridge yesterday
and guess what
i baked again
hahahas
this time i played with the recepie
used instant coffee powder and chocolate chips
put some chocolate chips at centre of the muffin too
stuck 3 flakes of almond at the top for aesthetic purposes lol!

i forgot that i was halving the number of baked muffins
and used the same amount of sugar i would for 12 muffins
hahaha
so this batch was sweeter than usual
but interestingly it's not very very sweet
in fact i've tasted sweeter muffins outside!

always so soft and moist inside

my 1st attempt at banana cake
i must say it went quite well

i was having my doubts while mixing it after adding the flour
cos it was quite sticky...not too fluid like
i used normal flour instead of cake flour
and instead of decorating it with sliced bananas on top
i sprinkled chocolate chips and sunflower seeds
i thought that looked nicer than the sliced bananas

this time i actually used butter
gotta use up the block of butter i have in the fridge hee...

for my taste, i love it!
i think it's delicious
i love a freshly baked cake
i like to taste my creations when they're still a little warm
espically when the sides are still a little crispy
and it smelt great too
hehehhee.....

and go through the whole process of choosing a decent looking one
i then adjust the exposure in photoshop
the natural light really helps a lot!

i guess the reason why i'm baking so much now

so....i shall bake all i can now =P

i got VectorWorks 2009 installed in my computer today
so far it seems to be working alright

i can predict i'm gonna go eat up more cake very soon

oh man
i cannot resist the tempetation of home baked cookies
i just love how the house gets filled with that baking aroma
espically if it's one of those bright and fine days
where you can smell your baking....and hear the soft tingling of the wind chime
i just love that feeling!

anyways i got into baking again
and this time was baking in the middle of the night
this time i tried baking some chocolate cookies
it has chocolate chips, cocoa powder, oats and almonds in them
i shaped them using the measuring spoon (tablespoon size)
that's why they looked so uniform
have a look....

did a variation too
not shaped using the spoon
it has icing sugar and a chocolate-peanut butter fudge

i made another batch of cookies
they have oat, raisins, almonds, white chocolate, sunflower seeds and flax seeds in them
hahaha...in fact i kinda just dumped in whatever seeds and nuts i can find from my cupboard
i prefer these compared to the chocolate ones
they seem more 'nutritious' to me
and i like the taste better...more fragrant
but some of my friends seem to prefer the chocolate ones
i think it's cos they're not fans of raisins and seeds....

i don't like the calories
but i console myself by reminding myself that i'm consuming quite a bit of fibre
well, they do have oats, nuts and seeds in them
so....hahahha

at this rate
how am i ever gonna lose weight?

cooked bak kut teh today

the one that sis sent over

hmm....i think it shouldn't be called bak kut teh in my case cos i used chicken instead of pork

i threw in 4 of those thigh+drumstick pieces

so one for each of us in this flat =)

hahah

and i felt really accomplished after trimming out most of the fat and removing its skin

you should have seen the amount of fat those few pieces had

1 big handful of it!

it was quite scary

i think it turned out quite well

this stock mix was way better than the previous one i used

at least this one doesn't leave you feeling thirsty the whole day

i hope the others liked it

hope they find it edible at least lol!

also

i went down to Warehouse in Hornby yesterday

wanted to get a large black luggage

to store my belongings here when i'm off for the exchange

but guess what?

i left with i really red and 'flowery' one instead!

well, cos when i was going to the cashiers

i noticed they had some stock reduced to clear

and there stood a few large luggage bags

it was the same size as the one i've chosen

it somehow felt more stable too...and cheaper

hohoho.....it's not the best luggage, but i guess it would do for my storage purposes

and it was only NZ$45

heh no one can miss this bag...it's just too 'outstanding'!

i just hope it doesn't err... spoil or get damage to quickly!

the big red flowery bag i got.....good one to use for a trip to hawaii eh?

after returning to lincoln from hornby

met youssef's friend to help him out with one of his landscape electives

turned out that he needed help for vectorworks

i hope i managed to be of some help, as i'm not extremely familiar with that software

but i guess i did help in some way

cos he did look much more relieved at the end of it

it's good too cos i get to practise on vectorworks

so it's win-win =P

oh dear

my hands are getting 'itchy' again

hahah! or should i say my mouth is getting 'itchy'

well that's cos i keep wanting to eat home baked cookies...or just smth i bake

eh most of the stuff i bake i end up consuming more than half of it

i have yet to try out those pratha sausages things

just the thought of it makes me drool

hahahhah

i think i'm not a very good cook

but i think i cook good enough for myself lol

maybe cos i don't have enough practise

i wonder what it would be like it i actually trained to be a professional chef or baker

i've been clearing my stuff recently
it's interesting how many things u can store in a small room like mine
stuff's just hiding everywhere
and even though it looks like i've cleared quite a bit
there's still so many things around

i think i wanna get one of those large luggage bags
just to store some of my stuff
easy to roll it to the storage room....and easy to get it back when i return....although i do have quite a few boxes too.....
anyways....better than nothing
and i gotta think of a way to make my boxes distinctive lol!
just for the sake of easy retrival

feel like scanning some material too......so i can have digital copies when i'm in canada
hahaha.....kiasu?
nah, i'll just call that being prepared =P

hmmm....seems like it's gonna be a busy day for me tmr
but i do like the feeling of ticking off a 'to-do' list

i was looking at past posts
posts from years back
posts when i was working in ICA
posts when i was still in singapore

hahaha
it's quite interesting looking at those posts
how much i've changed
even my writing style has changed
indeed i'm getting older

i was looking at the period when i was working
how was it possible that i could stay in that place for the time i've been there?
it's just the same thing day in day out
wake up, wash up, put on my work pants i ironed the night before....while the top hangs in another bag
take 3 buses to work
tap in to work, check out my duty allocation, collect my chops
put on my full uniform
and get ready to start my day (or night)
i realised i was turning into one of my colleagues
there was a lot of negative energy around me
i diddn't think there was much social mingling unlike those people working in offices
cos most of the time you're alone in a booth
and i don't really strike up conversations with the customers
time for meals was ridiculously short
the reason why i never sleep at any of the night shifts was because the 1st time i tried to take a rest in one of my night shifts...i got chased away by people
i had nicely laid out the sleeping bag on one of the bunker beds
almost about to lie down
when someone came up to me and told me that was her space...
in a "that's my rest space...go away" sort of way
i must say i felt really terrible that day (or night)
i felt sad....i diddn't want to work there
i felt like a victim
and i did not belong there
from then on i never slept on ANY of my night shifts
i would drag a chair in front of my locker
and sit in front of it....sometimes reading....sometimes eating....sometimes just staring into space
while most of the rest are sleeping...i could hear the air-con....and the occassional opening of doors
come to think of it, it forms such a sad sight
hahahhaha!
there are other occasions where i would feel like a racial victim
it diddnt feel good
pisses me off

my goodness.....
i think the only thing that kept me staying there was the constant thought that i will not be there in time to come
but good thing i was able to work in the cargo section for my last few months
the people are nicer there it seems
it was happier there

well i learnt a lot there
from work life to how people acted in the 'real' world
in fact i must say it was good experience....it made me cherish education
hahaha......
although i know i'm gonna be returning to the 'real' world again after i graduate here

oh well.....it still amazes me how long i stayed there...

dark chocolate yogurt cake and pandan yogurt muffins

so...
today's another baking frenzy day
cos yesterday i bought some pandan thing (i later realised it's not pandan extract) from the asian store
and you know me....i get excited very easily...

so i tried baking some pandan yogurt muffins
hmm......this time i put some oil on the paper cups so the muffin diddnt stick too much...which was good!
the texture still soft and moist inside....and a bit crispy outside...
this time i made sure i did not overbake them
they turned out quite alright
but not as fragrant as i thought they would be
i think cos the pandan thing i used not as strong as those pandan extract...it's more paste like than liquid like....so i guess next time i gotta put in more of that
this time the muffins look more naked than the previous vanilla muffins cos i diddnt put any toppings
wasn't too sure what to add that would go with pandan, but i think next time i'll try some almonds

also, i tried this other yougrt cake
the dark chocolate yogurt cake
this one was baked in a loaf pan
it was quite dense
and the chocolate flavour was quite dominant (i guess since it's called dark chocolate cake hehe)
since i cut down on the sugar
the cake tasted very chocolatey but not sweet
the cake also had a bit of concentrated coffee in it
it would have tasted better it it was eaten with ice cream or whipped cream
after that i added some icing sugar on the cake
hoho....looks so christmas-ey
the icing sugar forms a very nice contrast with the chocolate cake

very addictive these things
together with ael, we made these chocolate clusters yesterday night
it has bits of raisins and almond too....

and it doesn't require baking
nice
it's sweet though... but not totally sweet cos you can also taste the tinge of 'saltiness' from the peanut butter we added in
tastes delicious!

heh i baked vanilla yogurt muffins
hmm......it turned out over brown...
any longer and it would have been burnt
LOL!
cos the toothpick i stuck in always came out not very clean
so i left it longer in the oven
and now i have crispy outside moist inside muffins
HAHA!
a bit difficult to peel the paper off the muffin
it wasnt too sweet cos i cut back half the sugar since i was using vanilla yogurt instead of plain yogurt...
heh next time i won't leave it inside for too long!

also gotta worry about my work attachment...
i gotta do 6 weeks of landscape implementation work in order to graduate....and i'm hoping i'll be able to do that when i get back from my exchange....

baked some cookies today
they're supposed to be healthier....
there's no butter cos i replaced it with canola oil....i also replaced the sugar with Splenda
and the cookies are packed with rasins and oats
sounds healthier?

woah.....i havent posted anything for months!

well, it's the semester break now....just a couple of weeks....
before that i was ridiculously busy with all those assignments and projects....
i can just imagine my life next year....it could only get busier!
i'm pretty much slacking all the way right now for the hols.....
and have been playing quite a bit of games with the flatmates!

right now i'm also waiting to go for my exchange trip later this year in sept....
oh i really should get an air ticket soon!
it's pretty exciting going for an exchange and all, but i have so many things to do!
sometimes i just like to make my life troublesome for myself
but i guess that's just the way it has to be in order to get new experiences...

i was hoping to do my industrial attachment in singapore,
but after calculating how much it would cost to fly from nz-canada-singapore-nz....
err.... i think i'll have to hopefully find a company here in nz....
it's just too expensive to fly around like that!
and i havent seen singapore for almost 1.5 years....i wonder what has changed back home....
i do miss the food back home....i want my chinese nasi lemak....hokkien mee....fish meat bee hoon soup....carl's jr, yoshinoya, mos burger, carrot cake, hong zhao ji, mee hoon kueh, peanut pancake....oooo i'm drooling right now....
it's nothing like it here.....

oh, went for a day trip to akaroa the other day....
we went there to get fish and chips...
it was quite nice....but the town itself has nothing much....

studio assignments to pass up every week
ayia studios......is a love-hate thing
and just last friday when i decided to turn up real late for the studio class, the tutor decides to come up with a attendence list
bloody hell la....
oh wells.....i hope i dun get less marks just because of that

people are weird creatures....at least some ppl in my class are....
sometimes u talk to them, they seem so uninterested
then sometimes they start talking to u
can't people be a little bit more consistant with their behaviour

i sometimes wish there wasn't so many graduate students in my class
it's stressful
oh yea stressful......
it's good to see their ideas and stuff like that
but sometimes it makes me feel like i don't know so many things
hmm....well, aren't we all learning
but sometimes i just get the feeling that some of those graduates think they are better than the rest of the class
hai....i should stop thinking of such stuff

i am establishing a bad habit of staying up the whole night (or most of it) just to finish up assignments
do i really do things so slowly that i always end up having to rush for all my work.....

how do some people think of concepts and ideas that are different?
you know, one of those "wow i would have never thought of doing it like that"
that kept me thinking
how do they come up with these ideas....these ways of thinking, seeing and doing?
how do they 'think out of the box'?
is it their education system? is it through experience? is it taught? or is it just natural for some people to think 'out of the box'?
it's easy in words and all, but how easy is it to really think out-of-the-box?
can anyone enlighten me?

it has been a busy week so far

interesting 1st day of school where we had to go to a recycling plant to find materials to construct a seat.....interesting...but transport very laychay....

since it's orientation week....lots of parties around....and some gigs and parties held in the union lounge...good for the participants....not so good for the cleaners!
i had to start work at 11pm, and only finished close to 3am -_-

so many readings already....and it's just day 4....
haven't started on readings...hoping to start after i finish this post
school meeting today afternoon....took a school pic....wonder how it looks like
bought a course reader for $65.65 on the 1st day...good news is there's not much more to buy

oh i finally got a design for my tumbler...too lazy to take out my camera, so i just used the mobile's camera

i kinda like the design
the original drawing did not look anything like this
used a filter in Ps for that effect...although if would be nice to have the face clearer....
but then....overall still a good effect

feeling sleepy....will i sleep or read?

i'll be starting my 1st class of the year in 20 mins....
good thing i got registration week done and over with last week
what a tedious process for me.....

and with the new semester
i got some new stuff...
a strap hanger thing for the back of my door
2 over the door clothes hooks
a starbucks 'design my own design' tumbler (i'll post up some pics later of the t0-be design)
i got a plushie...it's a lime green lizard with spots
and it got named 'duda'
i have no idea what that means...probably nothing...but it was named by someone else
lots of new stationery...including a Lamy Safari fountain pen
and for some reason i just couldn't resist the look of colourful post-it notes....so i got a colourful block and also a post-it notes dispenser (only finding out later that the sticky notes i bought is not exactly the correct ones for the dispenser -_-....nvm...i can still do smth to it to make it usable)
a tiny shoe rack...that just fits 2 pairs of shoes....good enough for me

got a new blender, hand mixer and kitchen scale on thursday
and more groceries of course
now i have too many apples in the fridge
good thing i went out with my flatmate that day and she has a car

how i wish i have one too.....

well....got the hand mixer and kitchen scale cos i suddenly wanted to bake something
or should i say the urge to bake something was so strong that it made me get those appliances
usually i would just think of baking something.... but then think of the hassle and cleaning and cost of getting the stuff.....i just forget about baking all together
i was hoping baking something would take that urge to bake away
get it over with before school starts
i did try baking a butter cake using a recepie i got from someone's blog
i tastes quite good....only thing is the weird shape of the cake
it looks like an exploded top

oh yesterday.....
hai what a day....
1st i forgot the keys for work....had to go back to my flat to get the keys....and i had to make my colleague wait too....what a waste of time
then after work i had to rush to this birthday party...that i was already late for 2 hrs
but the worst thing was that i diddn't know there were 2 people celebrating their birthdays!
i only got a present for one of them
oooo....how embrassing! :/
anyways.....i shall do some healthy thinking (i'm currently reading this book on healthy thinking)
lesson learnt!
i don't think i'll be forgetting those keys again!
and i'm gonna make sure i find out proper details before attending ANY sort of party!

and i just got myself a new calendar!
HAHAHA.....it's not one of those wall calendars....
it's one of those desk calendars where you tear off a page for each day
it's the DILBERT 2009 calendar!

i've never bought such a calendar before.....i just saw it ON OFFER in BORDERS...

i got some organic strawberries

i dunno wad made me get those strawberries
they're quite ripe actually....
which means i'm gonna be having lots of strawberries!
what better way to use up the strawberries than to make myself a big cup of strawberry juice?

i try not to think about the amounts of sugar.....
i'll just focus on the vitamins and anti-oxidants...hahahha....

went down to town today...
got some fabric paint and glitter paste
i'm hoping maybe i could do something with my plain t-shirts....
oh i also got one of those wooden figures...those people use for sketching and stuff
err....i dunno if i'll ever use it for drawing...i hope i do
but it just looks real cute....quite amusing
well, i decided to give it a 'heart'....with the new glitter paste i bought

the before and after looks....
so.....haha...i think it looks better with the heart...it looks happier!
and it's no ordinary heart! it's glittery black!
took a while to shape that heart....now that's skill! HA!
i think i should call it "waldig"
apparently "waldig" is woody in german...err i dunno how true that is cos i just used one of those online translator things.....i tried translating it to different languages.....spanish...french...italian etc...but the german version looks most like a name haha..... imagine boisé (french) or boscoso (italian) or arbolado (spanish)...hmm...and i can't even pronounce the french one..haha!
ooo....maybe i should go make some 'interchangable faces'....stick it on waldig's face hehheh...

wanted to get a bamboo wind chime too......unfortunately the shop has closed down :(
hmm....now i gotta look for another type of wind chime....maybe i should look for those japanese type....

yesterday my seniors came over to my flat.....taught me a bit of sketchup
wah....i'm stressed....i have lots to learn
and it doesn't help when i have a more 'compressed' course compared to the rest
it just means i gotta do a WHOLE LOT of self-learning.....and hopefully i have enough time to do that
i wish i had that time-turner thing Hermione had in harry potter....that would be cool...

oh man....i have this whole pile of library books that have just been lying in my room....collecting dust.....hahah.....why did i borrow them in the 1st place.....i better do a bit of reading, i dun think i can renew them anymore.....

hmm....i've been doing a bit of cleaning these few days.....
washing anything that could be washed
clothes....blankets.....sheets....pouches...pencil cases....

i think i've ran the washing machine non-stop maybe 5 times today?
the day before yesterday i think i ran it 4 times over and over again
i think my new flatmates must think i'm crazy or something
lol

i've also wiped the walls in my room with disinfectant....one of those yearly wipes
organised my wardrobe...and the dressing table...
got new room fragrance.....kinda like it cos it smells like freshly washed clothes
i finally found mothballs....wraped them up with paper and placed them around the cupboard and drawers
i even gave the bush outside my room a bit of a 'haircut'
how it looked like before

and then....

the final cut.....
well i gotta admit the original look had more character....
but too many spiders la
i'm hoping trimming it a lil' will reduce the chances of spiders hopping into my room....

oh ya.... look at the potatoes growing outside my room....they're right in front of that bush...

hmm.....decorated the candle holder too (err...ya it's just a cup la)
and did i mention i got a new metal pencil case?
hohoho.....i used a $10 voucher from borders and only paid $2 for it...:D

WAH... i'm very satisfied with a purchase i made today
i got a black Jeanswest blazer/jacket for NZ$10.49!
it's original price was NZ$79.99!
it has gone through a series of discounts....which means it has been hanging there for a while

i think it's nice!....it's 1 button at the front and it has a modified tuxedo look to it

and it was one of the hottest days in christchurch
u can see and smell sunscreen....you can and even hear people mention sunscreen on the radio
it was just a HOT HOT HOT day
got a really weird tan.....i got 2 different tones of 'tan'
my legs got this yellowish tinge tan...which looks weird
cos my hands got the brown tan

maybe it's the moisturiser i've been using...

i've decided to convert my singapore driving license to a nz one
but 1st i gotta pass the theory and practical test (oh yeah....and i thought i'll nv need to go for another driving test ever)
took the theory test today....easy, but the accumulated waiting time for me to get the test paper and to hand it back up was really really really long
i think i chose the wrong time to do the test, cos today was their 1st working day of the new year ....and there were lots of people there
i still gotta take the practical test....and i should go for a few lessons
which means i need to go book lessons
it's troublesome when you can't provide your own car for the lessons and test....
oh well....i hope i'll get the license in the end

got a gigantic drawing tube from gordon harris

it's so large i've decided to name it monster
err, sis said it's not a very creative name....
should i name it 'kreature' instead?
but it's really big.....

and wanted to make cupcakes
then i wanted to go get the ingredients

ha! that's the day i saw real snow.... 1st experience with snow ever!

hahahaha......

i was looking at the weather forecast in the afternoon: rain and snow, 2 degrees

looked out of the window...no snow, only rain...hmm

heh i was constantly looking outside trying to spot snow

well it was only a while later when i saw stuff from the sky that looks too white to be rain droplets....snow?

yea snow....!

but that only lasted for a short while....

it only decently snowed during dinnertime

it didn't last long tho...but there was enough snow to form a thin layer on the ground

everything had icing on it!

and the sight of it snowing just reminded me of a scene in edward scissorhands

ah i can just hear the music playing in my head from that scene...

okay back to reality....

so.... us bunch of mostly south-east asians...were playing with snow after dinner...

snowball fights to be exact.....

ooo....i made a 'snow-angel' on the very thin layer of snow on the grass

and my whole back got wet.....

field trip

today was another field trip day.....

a pretty long one.....8.30am - 4.30pm

we visited the Castle Hill and Cass Basins

it turned out pretty okay

besides the fact i now have small cuts on 2 of my fingers from climbing a fence with a barbed wire line....my jeans have bits of soil from the 'enys formation'...and that i hafta miss an ERST 202 lab....and i'm not really sure if i have absorbed anything from the field trip today...

anyways.....

got to see some good views

unlike the beaches in singapore....
the beaches here are quite huge

oooo....havent updated since i've reached Lincoln!

sooo.....
i've been in NZ for a week already, the weather's pretty cold at times
the views are amazing, lots and lots of space
well, the lots of space can get kinda inconvenient too
cos if i need to get someting, i need to plan when to get it...where to get it etc etc
it's not like singapore where you can just get something quickly from the nearest 24hr shop

lectures will be starting next week, man tt's fast
and i need to get all these expensive art materials...sigh
and books....
I dun think i can afford to get my notes printed (u know those powerpoint slides for lectures) cos printing is NZ$0.10 per page
ya yikes! i know...

hmm, i'm currently staying in a hall with NO INTERNET ACCESS
WHICH SUCKS...hahah
seriously, maybe i'm just unlucky or something cos i got one of those no internet access halls

genting trip '08

ooo the last few days were spent in genting and KL with sis and her poly friends

it was an interesting trip...but long story short, here are some pics of the trip

we decided to walked across the causeway instead of taking the bus

set off for genting from somewhere near city square at ard 2200hrs...

and reached genting close to 04oohrs

had an early macdonald's breakfast at 4 plus while we waited to check in at 6am

that same day we made a trip down to KL for some shopping (didn't get much in the end)

the train system is kinda confusing in KL, well partly cos almost everything is in malay and partly cos there were different operators running different lines

here's the interior of one of the trains...

had lunch at some mall...man the chicken i had was one of the spiciest i've ever had

whole face went red after the 2nd mouth

well i thought their spicy was like KFC's crispy chicken

BUT NOOOO......their spicy is really hellish hot!

after that....

visited a mall in midvalley...we got a bit lost in the tracks before reaching the mall

well...we hanged around KL for the day and went back to genting at ard 8 plus at night

the next day was spent in the theme park

I made it a point to skip all those bloody dizzy rides...and only stuck to those thrill coaster rides

but somehow i still ended up having a headache

anyways after the theme park sis and I decided to go for a buffet!

well your visit to genting is never complete if you dun go for a buffet dinner right???

i thought the buffet was good....i think we got the early bird price cos we only paid RM29.50 each

the pic on top was taken after dinner...sis was too stuffed to move tho hahahahah!

the white tiger was cooperative....it was actually walking up and down the enclosure, i dunno if he's just hungry or he just loves the camera

that's when i call the office and no one picks up
it's freaking irritating!

i think one extremely effective way to get a whole bunch of singaporeans from all over the island in one place is to have an IT show (tt's a long sentence)
anyways...got a notebook and a wireless router from SITEX last week
LOL....i'm still super amused that i can now IM my sis at home

the next expensive thing i would like to get is a cool camera
but that's gotta wait....feeling much much poorer now cos of the notebook

was walking up and down the asile with all the cleaning agents in the supermarket today
so auntie-ish right
anyways was just browsing around to see if there's anything interesting
there were so many different products up there
people really think of many things to clean eh
dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, metal polisher, pipe declogger/cleaner, toilet cleaner, parquet floor cleaner, furniture cleaner, kitchen grime cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner(for those ppl who just cannot decide which cleaner to get? hahha), glass cleaner, vegetable cleaner(i dunno why they put that there together with those dangerous chemicals...dunno if i wanna use it on my veggies...)and many other products
but one product caught my eye
well, it caught my eye cos the stock looks the mose depleted on the shelf
i had to tip-toe stretch my arm to get that bottle
it's the mr muscle mould and mildew killer
after reading the information on the bottle (yes i do read product labels)
i got it and tried it on the toilet tiles
you know those disgusting thing in between tiles that needs scrubbing to get them out
i just sprayed the cleaner on it...waited a while and rinsed away with water
wahhhhh.....it just melted away with the water
wahahahahhaha......like magic

anyways i locked myself out today
gotta go all the way to tm to get keys from sis
good thing she's not in school....or else im gonna dieee travelling all the way there

oh well...yea i took leave for 2 days!
i need a break from work man
now i can rot at home!!

work sucks...well most of the time
but i think i have been a bit luckier than others cos i get to try out different things at work
recently got to spend some time in the cargo counters
well it's better than clearing passengers cos most of the driver uncles are nice to you
sometimes you get to see interesting things
like some transhipment cargo i saw the other day
it came in parts and each on a different 'trailer-flatbed-platform' thingy
those things were gigantic man....
looked like parts to a transformer character
all red still! wah cool man
the only thing is tt sometimes you'll get stinky lorries
those with empty chicken cages espically
wah wonder how it's like if the cages were packed with chickens...eek

but although i get to try out different things at work...
it's never long
after a while it's back to clearing passengers
which sucks
can't help but feel a bit pissed
oh man i can't wait for the day i hand in my resignation
i wuldn't say i'm great at what i do...i make many mistakes
but i'm a good employee okay
i dun take MCs (yes believe it i haven't taken a single medical leave for the whole year i've worked here, it's a big deal cos ppl take MCs when they can't get actual leave)
i dun go to work late
and i do all the OTs i'm assigned
instead of feeling like a valued employee, i feel very 'used'
it's all just very inflexible here
you're treated like a kid
have to inform ppl if you need to go visit the washroom
and they have the habit of calling ppl during their MC days to make sure ur at home (like wad the hell right????!!?)

oh one very vicious cycle...

nevermind it's just a few more months...or i hope i just need to tahan a few more months

i'm usually a patient person (at least i think i am)
and after i started working
it's confirmed... i'm quite a patient person...LOL

after much thought and 'macro-micro' analysis, whatever that means... i just made that up
i conclude that singaporeans are a uniquely weird lot
maybe it's the side effects of living in this fast paced, tiny, kiasu-society a.k.a singapore
we want things fast. fast. fast. now.
let's see if i can quote a few examples

we let our kids go through intensive tuition and stuff to keep up in school...
we want to see significant weight loss in 3 days...
hmm, we let kids revise a grade higher than what they're at...
we don't like to queue

hmm...this brings me to another topic
besides the prime location of the woodlands checkpoint
the payable toll for vehicles is also less than that of tuas
so common sense ya
more people are likely to use woodlands
and there's that age old problem of traffic jams
actually it's not rocket science
just a matter of supply and demand
the checkpoint is only so big
it can only operate at that certain level before a queue starts to form
and due to the overwhelming support from the public
queues form rather quickly

oh here's something interesting i heard
there was someone who commented on the jams in woodlands
" last time when u guys did not open so many counters, there were jams outside the checkpoint"
wait there's more
" now u all open the counters and there's jam in the checkpoint"
well, same theory
there is only a exit due to security reasons
and to top it all
do ya'll know how many people try to bring in contraband and what not into singapore
a lot, from what i've heard
so you see more to check.

so jams are inevitable.
this problem (no matter how bad, or less bad it becomes) will always be there.

i think this time of the year's kinda weird
where some families go for that 'once in a year visit your relatives thing'
maybe i'm the only one that feels that way
... growing up my parents never really took us on such visits
and we kids never really knew how it's like to go 'CNY visiting'
i don't know my relatives, i think i'll feel less awkward in front of strangers
and seriously it's fine by me (to not go visiting)
haha....i dunno the customs, i'll get all awkward calling the relatives (oh and i dunno who's who and 'how to call them' either) i don't have anything to say to the cousins (i dun even know their names)
so to conclude, if you make me go visit relatives during CNY

actually the serving not exactly kiddy size leh...it's quite a lot for a kid...hmm...
it even comes with a milk culture drink thingy and origami paper!
